Crochet at the Cinema (beginners/improvers)

New to crochet?

Crochet is such fun, and such a portable craft, no wonder it’s so popular at the moment! Why not join a class and have a go yourself?

These friendly classes will teach you how to crochet. Each class has a maximum of 4 people. With some aimed at complete beginners, and some for those who may know just the basics, each class tackles a specific project designed to teach you basic crochet stitches and how to combine them, plus how to read a pattern and a chart, and how to complete a project.

The yarn for the project is provided and there’ll be crochet hooks to use at the class.

Where?

The Crochet at the Cinema classes take place at the Arthouse Cinema in 159a Tottenham Lane, N8 9BT. The cafe will be open so you will be able to grab a coffee, soft drink (or even a beer or wine) if you wish.

You will need to book in advance – just email me at info @ pickingupstitches (dot) com or fill in the form here stating which class you’d like to attend.

Upcoming projects

Projects for December are suitable for complete beginners, with the snowflakes suitable for those who know the basic stitches.

Granny Squares

Retro style lamp and trhee granny squares

For the granny square you will learn how to make a slip knot, how to chain stitch, and how to work into a ring. You will also learn how to make treble crochet stitches.

The traditional granny square is so versatile. Once you know how to crochet one, you’ll be well on your way to making a blanket, a cushion cover, a table mat, a coaster, a wristband – the crochet world’s your oyster. You can read about some of the things I’ve made out of granny squares recently over on my Blog page.

Christmas decorations

Crochet Christmas stars

This month there will be classes to crochet a Christmas star, suitable for everyone including complete beginners.

For improvers, if you request, I can arrange classes to crochet a snowflake decoration.

Baskets

Three tweedy crocheted baskets holding wool and crochet hooks

Little baskets are simple to work, even for beginners. They make ideal Christmas presents too, so why not get started straightaway! You’ll learn how to work in the round, and use double crochet and half treble stitches. Although there aren’t any scheduled classes for baskets, get in touch and I can arrange one to suit you.

You can see some of the baskets I’ve made recently on my blog here.
